Supporting EMIoT Students with Bloc Equipment and Expertise
Empowering Students at Bloc
We’re committed to shaping the future by supporting the next generation of talent. Recently, we supported University of Derby students Chezzar and Eliah, as part of the East Midlands Institute of Technology (EMIoT), to bring their ambitious motion capture project to life, supplying them with equipment, expertise and education on how to use the equipment effectively.
As a lead industrial partner of the EMIoT, we play a key role in fuelling future careers through strategic regional collaboration. This unique partnership unites colleges, universities, and employers to deliver exceptional technical education and training for the workforce of tomorrow.

Motion and Performance Capture Recording
The students’ brief challenged them to explore new techniques and technologies while creating a compelling video. Their story focused on a soldier grappling with PTSD after a harrowing extraterrestrial encounter, conveying deep emotional complexity through high-fidelity animation.
Bloc Digital supported the project by providing recording equipment and knowledge exchange so that the students could record a person's body movements, facial expressions, and voice simultaneously. The data is then used to animate 3D digital characters.
By emphasising the actor’s voice and facial expressions, the students brought their characters to life, transforming their narrative into a visually compelling and emotionally impactful experience.
Chezzar and Eliah visited Bloc Digital twice during their project. Their first visit was a workshop-style session, where they gained hands-on experience with the performance capture tools under expert guidance. On their second visit, they worked independently, utilising the time, space, and resources provided by Bloc to refine their project.
